U.S. Immigration Law Conference

May 2023

Goldfarb Gross Seligman had the pleasure of helping to organize the U.S. Immigration Law Conference held in Tel Aviv this week. We were joined by some 80 attorneys who flew in to Israel for the conference.

The conference included a special program featuring the three senior U.S. Consular Officers from the United States Embassy in Israel. The keynote speaker was Professor Shimon Shetreet of the Hebrew University.

Adv. Oren Biran, Co-Head of our Tax Department, spoke on a panel which highlighted tax considerations in the selection of visa processing alternatives. Oren focused his remarks on international tax-related issues such as residency, Israeli exit tax, founders’ stock issues and stock options that commonly face Israeli startups in the relocation process.

Adv. Liam Schwartz, Head of our Corporate Immigration Practice, led a panel offering insights into the Foreign Affairs Manual, the “Bible” of U.S. visa processing. Liam also led a panel created especially for the Consular Officers in attendance, that discussed the work attorneys do in trouble shooting and strategizing in support of our clients in the immigration field. The latter panel included both the President and the President-Elect of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
